The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
