Let the dead earth be a Sign for them. We gave it life and produced from it grain whereof they eat. 33 and produced therein grains from which they eat and established therein gardens of palms trees and vineyards and have made streams flow therein 34 that they might eat of its fruits and their hands' labour. What, will they not be thankful? 35 Holy is He Who created all things in pairs, whether it be of what the earth produces, and of themselves, and of what they do not know. 36 And a Sign for them is the Night: We withdraw therefrom the Day, and behold they are plunged in darkness; 37 The sun runs to its fixed resting place; that is the decree of the Almighty, the Knower. 38 We have determined the stations of the moon, so that (after its wanderings) it returns as a dried up inflorescent spike of dates. 39 It behoves not the sun to overtake the moon, neither does the night outstrip the day, each swimming in a sky. 40 And [it ought to be] a sign for them that We bear their offspring [over the seas] in laden ships, 41 and then created for them other vessels like those on which they ride. 42 Should We so wish, We can drown them, and there will be none to heed their cries of distress, nor will they be rescued. 43 It is only Our Mercy (that rescues them) and enables enjoyment of life for a while. 44 And [yet,] when they are told, "Beware of [God's insight into] all that lies open before you and all that is hidden from you, so that you might be graced with His mercy," [most men choose to remain deaf;] 45 Never does any Sign of their Lord come to them, but they turn away from it. 46 And when it is said unto them: Spend of that wherewith Allah hath provided you, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: Shall we feed those whom Allah, if He willed, would feed? Ye are in naught else than error manifest. 47 And they say: when will this promise be fulfilled if ye say sooth? 48 They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing. 49 Then they will not be able to make bequest, nor they will return to their family. 50
