The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
