Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
