Aaron had told them before, "My people, you are deceived by the calf. Your Lord is the Beneficent God. Follow me and obey my orders". 90 They said: we shall by no means cease to be assiduous to it until there returneth to us Musa. 91 Moses said to Aaron, "What prevented you, when you saw that they had gone astray, 92 That thou followedst me not? Hast thou then disobeyed my order? 93 Answered [Aaron]: "O my mother's son! Seize me not by my beard, nor by my head! Behold, I was afraid lest [on thy return] thou say, 'Thou hast caused a split among the children of Israel, and hast paid no heed to my bidding!" 94 Musa said: what was thy object, O Samiri? 95 He answered: "I have gained insight into something which they were unable to see: and so I took hold of a handful of the Apostle's teachings and cast it away: for thus has my mind prompted me [to act]." 96 Musa said: begone thou! verily it shall be thine in life to say no contact; and verily thine is an appointment which thou shalt by no means fail. And look at thy god to which thou hast been assiduous; we shall surely burn it, and we shall scatter it into the sea a wide scattering. 97 Your God is only Allah, the One other than whom there is no god. He comprehendeth everything in knowledge. 98 Thus We relate to you the history of past events, and We have given you a reminder [the Quran] from Us. 99 Whoso turneth away from it, he verily will bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection, 100 Abiding in this (state), and evil will it be for them to bear on the day of resurrection; 101 On the day the Trumpet is blown; and We shall muster the sinners upon that day with eyes staring, 102 They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]." 103 We know best what they will say. The most perceptive of them will say, "You stayed only one day." 104
