And when thy Lord called to Moses, 'Go to the people of the evildoers, 10 the people of Pharaoh; will they not be godfearing?' 11 'My Lord' he replied, 'I fear they will belie me 12 and my breast will be straitened, and my tongue will not be loosed; so send to Aaron. 13 They have charged me [with a crime] for which I am afraid they will kill me." 14 Said He: "Not so, indeed! Go forth, then, both of you, with Our messages: verily, We shall be with you, listening [to your call]! 15 go both to Pharaoh and both of you say to him: 'We are (each) a Messenger from the Lord of all the Worlds. 16 That you should send the children of Israel with us.' 17 Said Firaun, “Did we do not raise you amongst us, as a child? And you spent many years of your life among us!” 18 And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful." 19 Replied [Moses]: "I committed it while I was still going astray; 20 Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord bestowed on me wisdom and made me one of the sent ones. 21 And is it a favor of which you remind me that you have enslaved the children of Israel? 22 Pharaoh said, 'And what is the Lord of all Being?' 23 [Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced." 24 (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Did ye not listen (to what he says)?" 25 Moses went on, "He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers." 26 Pharaoh said to the audience: "This Messenger of yours who has been sent to you is simply mad." 27 [But Moses] went on: "[He of whom I speak is] the Sustainer of the east and the west and of all that is between the two - as you would know]" if you would but use your reason!" 28 [Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned." 29 Moses said: "Even if I were to bring a Clear Sign to you?" 30 [Pharaoh] answered: "Produce it, then, if thou art a man of truth!" 31 So (Moses) cast his staff, and lo, it turned into a living serpent. 32 And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it was white unto the beholders. 33
