Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
