S (Saad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 Nay, those who desbelieve are in false pride and opposition. 2 How many a generation have We destroyed afore them, and they cried when there was not time of fleeing. 3 They wondered that a warner had come to them from among themselves, and the deniers of the Truth said: “This is a sorcerer, and a big liar. 4 What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! 5 And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it. 6 We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication. 7 What! Upon him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed from on high?" Nay, but it is My Own reminder that they distrust! Nay, they have not yet tasted the suffering which I do impose! 8 Or, are with them the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Bestower? 9 Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! 10 This is just one of the disgraced armies, that will be routed there and then. 11 The people of Nuh and Ad, and Firon, the lord of spikes, rejected (apostles) before them. 12 And Samood and the people of Lut and the dwellers of the thicket; these were the parties. 13 Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified, 14
