He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
