Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
