The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
