The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
