The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 And those who undo the bonds gently, 2 And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.). 3 and yet overtake [one another] with swift overtaking: 4 And who plan the implementation. 5 The day the convulsive (first blast) shatters convulsively 6 There will follow it the subsequent [one]. 7 Hearts, that Day, will tremble, 8 and eyes will be humbly cast down. 9 They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? 10 What, when we are bones old and wasted?' 11 They have said, "Such a resurrection will certainly be a great loss". 12 But it shall be only a single scare, 13 and behold! They will all come out in the open. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 Saying: go thou unto Fir'awn; verily he hath waxen exorbitant. 17 And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself; 18 that I might guide you to your Lord, so that you fear (Him)." 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 but he belied and disobeyed, 21 Then he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 Then gathered he and summoned 23 Yet to a rich man, 24 So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
