He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe of God 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
