Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 when he called upon his Lord secretly 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 And compassion from Us, and goodness. So he was devout, 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. 15
