The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By [the winds] that pluck out vehemently 1 By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); 2 And by those who float in space, 3 and those that outstrip suddenly 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 The Day when the quaking will cause a violent convulsion, 6 and the second blast follows it, 7 Hearts that Day will be in agitation; 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 even after we are fragmented bones' 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 It will be only one scaring shout, 13 When lo! they shall be wakeful. 14 Hath there come unto thee the story of Musa! 15 Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley: 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 So Moosa showed him a magnificent sign. 20 But he denied and disobeyed, 21 Then he turned his back, striving. 22 and gathered his people and declared: 23 Then he said: I am your lord, the most high. 24 But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life. 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
