The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
