The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
