Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 and raised couches, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
