We sent a revelation to Moses saying, "Take away My servants by night and strike for them a dry path through the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken and do not be afraid." 77 Then Fir'awn followed them with his hosts; and there came upon them of the sea that which came upon them. 78 For Pharaoh had led his people astray and did not guide them. 79 O Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount, and We sent down to you Al-Manna and quails, 80 Saying: eat of the clean things wherewith We have provided you, and wax not exorbitant in respect thereof, lest My wrath alight on you; and upon whomsoever My wrath alighteth, he surely perisheth. 81 But I am indeed Most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does righteous works and keeps to the Right Way." 82 ۞ [Allah] said, "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?" 83 He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased." 84 He said: Lo! We have tried thy folk in thine absence, and As-Samiri hath misled them. 85 So Musa returned to his people wrathful, sorrowing. Said he: O my people! did not your Lord promise you a goodly promise: did then the time seem long to you, or did you wish that displeasure from your Lord should be due to you, so that you broke (your) promise to me? 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to you, of our own will, but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh)] people, then we cast them (into the fire), and that was what As-Samiri suggested." 87 And he produced for them a calf: a body with a low. Then they Said: this is your god and the god of Musa, and that he forgat. 88 Did they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good? 89
