Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you call?" 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 and no sincere friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
