The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and the sea that is full 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
