He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
