The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
