The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
