He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
