The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to those that deal in fraud,- 1 Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. 2 Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less! 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 unto a mighty day 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred; 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 Yet they were not sent to be their guardians. 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
