[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 When Shu'aib said to them: "Will you not take heed? 177 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 178 "So fear Allah and obey me. 179 And I ask of you no hire therefor; and my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 180 ۞ "Give full measure, and cause no loss (to others). 181 and weigh with the straight scale, 182 And defraud not people of their things, and commit not corruption on the earth. 183 “And fear Him Who created you and the earlier creations.” 184 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 185 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us, and indeed we think thou art a liar! 186 So cause a piece of the sky to fall upon us if you are truthful." 187 Shuayb said: "My Lord knows well all what you do." 188 Then they branded him a liar, whereupon the chastisement of the Day of Canopy overtook them. It was the chastisement of a very awesome day. 189 Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers. 190 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 191
