The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
