The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the beloved shining star when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
