The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
