Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 Going into the blazing fire. 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 raised couches, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
