The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
