The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 an orphaned relative 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
