The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
