Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
