The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
