Al-Shams
The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
