The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
