He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
