Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
