The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
