The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 when earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
