The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
