Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
