The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
