The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
