Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book, 2 That We made it a distinctly lucid Qur'an that you may understand. 3 And Lo! in the Source of Decrees, which We possess, it is indeed sublime, decisive. 4 [O YOU who deny the truth!] Should We, perchance, withdraw this reminder from you altogether, seeing that you are people bent on wasting your own selves? 5 Many a prophet had We sent to the earlier communities, 6 but whenever a prophet came to them, they mocked him, 7 We therefore destroyed the people who were more forceful than these, and the example of the earlier ones has already gone by. 8 And if thou askest them: who hath created the heavens and the earth? they will surely say: created them the Mighty, the Knower. 9 (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way); 10 And He Who sends down water from the cloud according to a measure, then We raise to life thereby a dead country, even thus shall you be brought forth; 11 It is He who has created everything in pairs and the ships and cattle for you to ride, 12 In order that you may mount firmly on their backs, and then may remember the Favour of your Lord when you mount thereon, and say: "Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts)." 13 And surely to our Lord we must return. 14 Yet they have made some of His servants a part of Him. Indeed man is most evidently thankless. 15
