The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
