In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
WE SENT NOAH to his people to warn them before the painful punishment came upon them. 1 He said: "O my People! I am to you a Warner, clear and open: 2 Worship Allah, and fear Him, and obey me. 3 That He may forgive you somewhat of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Lo! the term of Allah, when it cometh, cannot be delayed, if ye but knew. 4 He said: my Lord! Verily I have called my people night and day. 5 but my pleas have only increased their aversion. 6 “And whenever I called them, so that You may forgive them, they always thrust their fingers into their ears, and covered themselves with their clothes, and remained stubborn and were extremely haughty.” 7 "So I have called to them aloud; 8 and preached to them in public, and also addressed them in secret. 9 I said to them: “Ask forgiveness from your Lord; surely He is Most Forgiving. 10 He will let loose the sky for you in plenteous rain, 11 rain from the sky, 12 What is the matter with you, [that you fear not Allah (His punishment), and] you hope not for reward (from Allah or you believe not in His Oneness). 13 While He has created you in stages? 14 Do you not see how God has fashioned seven skies one above the other, 15 And made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 And thereafter He will cause you to return thereinto, and He will bring you forth a forthbringing. 18 God has made the earth for you a spreading, 19 That of it ye may traverse the ways open. 20

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
