The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
